Activate your first subscriber in five minutes

From a fresh account to a device on the network in the console, then confirmed and reached over the API.

6 min read · Updated

The fastest route from nothing to a subscriber carrying data. Activation is done in the console. Once the device is on the network, the Developer API confirms it and lets you reach it.

In the console

  1. Sign in at management.simsonic.com and open SIMs, or order a subscriber from shop.simsonic.com if you do not have one yet.
  2. Assign it a Tariff and a customer group so policy and billing stay tidy from day one.
  3. For eSIM, install the QR or LPA string on the device. For physical SIM, insert it.
  4. Power the device and watch its status reach active on the SIMs screen, with data usage counting against its tariff.

Confirm it is live over the API

bash
# active SIMs in your customer group
curl \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer simbearer_<prefix>_<secret>" \
  -H "X-Customer-API-Key: simdev_<prefix>_<secret>" \
  "https://management.simsonic.com/developer/api/sims/?status=active&page_size=25"

# each result carries "status": "active"; "connection_status": "active" means it is on the network

Reach it

bash
# send the SIM a test SMS, returns HTTP 202 Accepted
curl \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer simbearer_<prefix>_<secret>" \
  -H "X-Customer-API-Key: simdev_<prefix>_<secret>" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -X POST \
  -d '{"message": "Hello from Simsonic"}' \
  "https://management.simsonic.com/developer/api/sims/<iccid>/sms/"
Heads up

First attach can take a few minutes while the modem scans bands, so connection_status may stay inactive for a short while. If it stalls past ten minutes, see diagnosing a device.
